The 13 Colonies -Then and Now . . .
INTRODUCTION:
The United States started out as 13 colonies along the Atlantic Coast of North America. These colonies were controlled by the English (or British). The original 13 colonies were founded in the 1600s and 1700s, starting with Virginia and ending with Georgia. Thus a new nation is formed when thirteen British colonies revolted against British rule and formed their own nation. You and a partner is given an opportunity to visit these old colonial town. PROCESS:
Step One: Once you arrive, click on the "Now and Then" tab and watch the short animated clips that demonstrate the differences between life in Colonial times and now. Step Two: Once you arrive at this destination, you can participate in some interactive activities. Girls: Play the "Dress Me Up" game to discover how your clothing today differs form clothing worn by girls in Colonial times. Boys: Under Educational Interactivities, click on 'Tis A Very Dirty Manner of Life to learn about how popular language today differs from that spoken by the colonists. Step Three: At this stop, you can take a virtual tour of Colonial Williamsburg. First, click on the Multimedia tab. 1- Read the "Daily Blogs", 2- Listen to the "Weekly Podcasts", and watch the "Monthly VodCasts". Step Four: At this stop, you will click the "History" link and read about George Washington and then watch the video on the right of the page. Step Five: Once you arrive, you will find much information about food in the 13 Colonies. Step Six: Now you are ready to report on what you have learned. Simply go to Google classroom and open the "13 colony, then and now" assignment and proceed to developing your presentation. Be creative and have fun! |
